Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) was established by the Government of India to promote research in social sciences in the country. ICSSR provides grants for projects, fellowships, international collaboration, capacity building, surveys, publications, etc. to promote research in the social sciences in India. ICSSR invites online applications once a year, around April-June, under its various fellowship schemes.

National Fellowships are awarded to eminent Indian Social Scientists in recognition to their scholarly contributions and providing opportunities to engage themselves in full-time research that have the potential to contribute in advancement of knowledge in social sciences.
Eligibility: Renowned retired Indian social scientists who have not availed of ICSSR National Fellowship earlier.
Duration: The duration of the fellowship is for two years only.
Value: The value of the fellowship is Rs.60, 000 p.m. and contingency grant is Rs.60, 000/-p.a. irrespective of the pensionary benefit.
Senior Fellowships are awarded to outstanding Indian Social Scientists for conducting full time research on themes and issues of national and social concern. These studies are expected to contribute to theoretical and conceptual advancement in different disciplines, help in generating field work based empirical data and contribute towards policy making.
Eligibility: The scholar should not be less than 45 and more than 70 years of age as on the last date of application. The scholar must possess Ph.D. Degree and have, in the opinion of the ICSSR, the necessary competence to conduct research in social sciences or social aspects of other disciplines in addition to having outstanding research publications at the time of application.
Duration: The duration of the fellowship is strictly for two years.
Value: The value of the fellowship for unemployed and superannuated scholars is Rs.45,000 per month and contingency grant is Rs.40,000/- per annum irrespective of the pensionary benefit.
The main objective of ICSSR Post-Doctoral Fellowship is to encourage and retain young Indian Social Science scholars who have completed their Ph.D. and wish to pursue a regular career in teaching and research. They should have a high potential and promise for conducting full time research on specific themes and issues.
Eligibility: The scholar should not be more than 45 years of age as on the last date of application. There shall be an age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability candidates. The scholar must possess Ph.D. Degree at the time of application and have, in the opinion of the ICSSR, the necessary competence to conduct research in social sciences or social aspects of other disciplines.
Duration: The duration of the fellowship is strictly for two years.
Value: The value of the fellowship is Rs.31,000 per month and contingency grant is Rs.25,000/- per annum.
Doctoral Fellowships are awarded to selected Indian scholars, who are registered for Ph.D. in UGC recognized universities / deemed universities, institutes of national importance, ICSSR research institutes and colleges having approved Ph.D. programme with requisite infrastructure as defined by MoE / UGC to pursue and complete their doctoral research in any social science discipline.
Eligibility: The candidate must have secured a minimum 45% marks in Graduation and 55% in Post-Graduation or equivalent grades in any social science disciplines. Five per cent (5%) relaxation of marks will be given to SC/ST candidates & persons with benchmark disability.
Duration: The duration of the fellowship is strictly for two years or till the date of Ph.D submission at the university, whichever is earlier.
Value: The value of the fellowship is Rs.20,000/- p.m. and contingency grant is Rs.20,000 /- p.a.

Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are designed for Indian faculty and researchers who are in the early stages of their research careers in India. The Postdoctoral Research Fellowships will provide opportunities to talented faculty and researchers to strengthen their research capacities. These fellowships are for 8 to 24 months.
Requirements :
- The applicant must have a Ph.D. or a D.M. degree within the past four years. S/he must have obtained a Ph.D. degree between July 17, 2019 and July 16, 2023.
- The applicant is required to upload his/her Ph.D. or D.M. degree certificate/provisional Ph.D. certificate on the online application.
