The Department of Science & Technology (DST) was established in May 1971 to promote advancements in Science & Technology and serve as a central department for organizing, coordinating, and advancing S&T efforts nationwide.

Given the evolving landscape and emerging needs in the field of S&T, we must embark on significant science projects that are aligned with national priorities and hold promise for future technologies. DST plays a key role in promoting science & technology throughout the country. Its activities range from supporting high-level basic research and developing cutting-edge technologies to addressing the technological needs of the general population by fostering relevant skills and technologies.

 

 

Call for Proposals (May 2024)

Introducing the WISE-SCOPE Fellowship Program, initiated by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), designed to empower women scientists and technologists post their Ph.D. to apply their expertise for societal betterment. The program encompasses diverse areas including Energy, Water and Waste Management (EWWM), Engineering and Technology Development (ETD), Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development (ECSD), Agriculture and Allied Sciences (AAS), and Health, Food and Nutrition (HFN).

Financial support: Rs. 55,000 monthly fellowship + HRA, Rs. 2.0 Lakh/year Research Grant, Rs. 1.0 Lakh for Field Demonstrations, and up to Rs. 2.0 Lakh for small equipment.

Project duration: up to 3 years.

The Department of Science Technology (DST) launched the Cognitive Science Research Initiative (CSRI) during the 11th Five-Year Plan in 2008. This initiative aims to address cognitive disorders and social challenges by offering a platform for the scientific community to utilize psychological tools, early diagnosis techniques, improved therapies, intervention technologies, and rehabilitation programs.

The Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program, part of CSRI, is designed to foster talent in Cognitive Sciences. It offers a two-year fellowship to scientists under 40, encouraging innovative research in cutting-edge areas of Cognitive Science.

Dates: April 16, 2024, to May 31, 2024.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is launching the ‘WISE Fellowship for Ph.D. (WISE-PhD)’ program as part of the ‘Women in Science and Engineering-KIRAN (WISE-KIRAN)’ Scheme. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for pursuing Ph.D. studies in Basic and Applied Sciences. The program invites project proposals from unemployed women who aspire to pursue Ph.D. with this fellowship.

Subject Areas: Support is available in five subject areas: i) Physical & Mathematical Sciences; ii) Chemical Sciences; iii) Life Sciences; iv) Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, and; v) Engineering & Technology.

Eligibility: Women aiming to pursue or already pursuing a Ph.D. without a fellowship can seek financial aid through the WISE-PhD program. Ph.D. registration must occur within six months of receiving the recommendation letter. Key eligibility criteria are:

Qualification: Applicants must possess an M. Sc./ M. Tech. or equivalent degree (e.g., B. Tech., M.Phil., M. Pharm., etc.) in basic and applied sciences from a recognized University/ Institute.

Age: Applicants should be aged between 27-45 years. However, there’s a three-year age relaxation for SC/ ST/ PH candidates.

Employment: Women currently in regular employment are ineligible for WISE-PhD.

Project Duration: The fellowship is tenable for a maximum period of five years or until the submission of the Ph.D. thesis, whichever comes first.

Emoluments: The fellowship amount under the WISE-PhD program is Rs. 37,000/- along with House Rent Allowances as per norms, a Research Grant of Rs. 1.00 lakh per year, and Institutional Overhead Charges as per DST norms.
