Proposal Defence

Candidates are required to submit a softcopy of the complete research proposal report between 3,000~7,000 words to the Deputy Dean’s Office (tdekan_ias@um.edu.my) no later than two (2) weeks from the date of presentation including the following:

  1. Abstract
  2. Introduction, problem statement and scope of research
  3. Research objectives
  4. Summary of literature review
  5. Description of the conceptual framework or a summary of the experimental method or a summary of the study design and the apparatus required
  6. Importance and relevance of the study
  7. Preliminary findings / Pilot test (Early Findings, if any)
  8. Discussion and Conclusion
  9. Proposed work schedule based on the submission date of the thesis/ dissertation
  10. Concise bibliography

Confirmation Defence

Candidates (for Fast Track Admission candidates [Accelerated Admission]) are required to submit a softcopy of the complete research proposal report between 4,000~7,000 words to the Deputy Dean’s Office (tdekan_ias@um.edu.my) no later than two (2) weeks from the date of presentation including the following:

  1. Abstract
  2. Introduction, problem statement and scope of research
  3. Research objectives
  4. Complete literature review
  5. Robust research methods
  6. Significance and relevance of the study
  7. Preliminary Findings / Pilot Test (Early Findings, if any)
  8. Discussion and Conclusion
  9. Proposed work schedule based on the submission date of the thesis/dissertation
  10. Concise bibliography

Candidature Defence

Candidates are required to submit a softcopy of a complete Candidature Defence report between 5,000~10,000 words to the Deputy Dean’s Office (tdekan_ias@um.edu.my) no later than two (2) weeks from the date of presentation including the following:

  1. Abstract (500 words in the Malay and English language)
  2. Introduction and problem statement
  3. Research objectives
  4. Importance and relevance of research
  5. Literature review that is concise and straight to the point
  6. Methodology that is solid and well supported
  7. Results obtained thus far
  8. Discussion and Conclusion
  9. Bibliography that is concise and straight to the point
  10. Research plan that leads to submission of dissertation/thesis on the stipulated date
  11. List of publications or conference papers that were presented/cited in the period of candidature, if available.

Proposal/ Confirmation/ Candidate Defence Seminar

1) Proposal / Confirmation Defence

Presentation duration of the seminar in front of the panel of judges must not exceed 40 minutes, including the question-and-answer session.
• 15 ~ 20 mins presentation, 10 ~ 20 mins Q & A

2) Candidature Defence

Presentation duration of the seminar in front of the panel of judges must not exceed 60
minutes, including the question-and-answer session.
• 15 ~ 20 mins presentation, 20 ~ 40 mins Q & A
